lucia, and birds

i had to post these pix. when were birds so exciting? why are they not so much anymore?

cabaret

been working diligently and with inspiration on a new project, a cabaret show based on the music of sam phillips. it's been quite exciting, to do the writing and to be enjoying the process of writing. lately i've felt stunted and dull when faced with an idea and a blank page, so this feeling is kind of thrilling. i've come across such a wealth of crazy information while doing research, like this picture of a prostitute in the wild west of the 1800's. this one was a "crib girl", usually a drug addict working out of a tiny room (aka "a crib").

found & bought

michael and i have been coveting this painting by angeleno artist louie metz ever since we passed by the gallery that just opened, cannibal flower, on venice on our way to the farmers market. i started asking for artwork for gifts last year, but i don't think anyone took me seriously, seeing as i am always ready to receive an article of exceptional clothing! but this year i was dedicated and today we purchased this piece, called "do what your mom says". it reminds me of bukowski and edward hopper. it could be depressing but for some reason it's just comforting to me. let's not analyze that too closely.
